About this Course
This course builds fourth-grade mathematical fluency and reasoning across five core strands: place value, multi-digit arithmetic, fractions, measurement, and geometry. Sessions progress from concrete, visual models toward abstract computation and problem-solving, with consistent review woven in so earlier skills stay sharp as new ones are introduced.
Course Strands & Progression
1. Place Value & Number Sense
- Read, write, and compare multi-digit whole numbers (up to 1,000,000)
- Understand place value relationships (a digit in one place represents 10 times what it represents in the place to its right)
- Round multi-digit numbers to any place
2. Multi-Digit Operations
- Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm
- Multiply a number by up to a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number, and two 2-digit numbers
- Divide up to 4-digit dividends by 1-digit divisors, including interpreting remainders
- Solve multi-step word problems using the four operations
3. Fractions
- Extend understanding of fraction equivalence and ordering
- Add and subtract fractions with like denominators, including mixed numbers
- Multiply a fraction by a whole number
- Understand decimal notation for fractions and compare decimals to hundredths
4. Measurement & Data
- Convert measurements within a single system (e.g., km to m, hours to minutes)
- Solve problems involving distance, time, liquid volume, mass, and money
- Apply area and perimeter formulas to solve real-world problems
- Represent and interpret data, including line plots with fractional units
- Understand and measure angles in degrees
5. Geometry
- Identify and classify lines, angles, and shapes based on properties
- Recognize lines of symmetry
- Classify two-dimensional figures based on angle and side properties
